SAVES GAMES GOES TO:

Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim Dawnguard (show package contents) and go to:
Contents/Resources/drive_c/users/Wineskin/My Documents/My Games/Skyrim/Saves/ HERE¡


if you want to switch between the game and Mac osx without having to close the game just press CMD+ALT+A if you want the game full screen again press CMD+ALT+A again.


one last thing when you quit the game it stucks but press CMD+Q and it will quit the 
game without any problem =)

and don't forget to check in DATA FILES - first Dawnguard
and then Unofficial Skyrim Patch.

and if Data Files Option is unable replace with "Data Files Glitch.zip" files into one folder up where your saves are.

if you lose your saves files you can use mine, just start the game and click continue, and talk to any guard in the cities =)

95.8% uploaded =) I have test it on 2 iMacs the old has a "NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB" video card and the newest has a "AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB" in both computers runs the game just fine "But" in a friend's old Macbook pro I get a error "Failed to initialize renderer, ShaderModel3 required but not supported by your video card." that laptop has a "Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB" video card... so as I said before I'm not a hacker the best "Skyrim Wrapper is The one that uses Cider.. But It hasn't been updated to run Dawnguard yet =( Mine Skyrim port uses "Wineskin" runs as good as the old Cider Skyrim wrapper or port,,, so I hope it works for you….. I'm seeding just because user posixoddity ask me to =) so Again I hope it works on your mac and still looking for a way to fix that "error" on the macbook pro laptop… =) and update your wineskin and XQuardz and Lion too..

My old imac has "mountain lion" and it runs the game just fine.. hope it helps and "not enough memory to run this game" is not your computer's memory but your computer's video card memory..

Hey cheers for that, I managed to get past the first problem, before encountering a second. The game runs with no audio (something about "streaming SIMD extensions)... after a bit of googling, I think it's because I have a retina-display MBP... Could be a no go for me unfortunately.

I looked for my saves in my old version of Skyrim, which I downloaded in November 2011 as a torrent from thepiratebay (can't remember which torrent exactly). Originally they were really hard to find, but I eventually hunted them down by looking for subdirectories that changed size when I saved.

Saves (.ess files) don't show up in Finder search. You can, however, find them in Finder if you navigate directly to the right folder.

I found mine here:

I am encountering one weird problem, which is that I am having trouble with key mapping.

In inventory management, the key that is indicated as "favorite" (F by default) triggers the "drop" response. The key for dropping doesn't seem to do anything. There are a few other problems like this.

It doesn't seem to extent to keymapping in normal play - I changed lasteno's movement keys to my usual WASD, and those work fine.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, do you know how to fix it? I'm going to try moving around some of the preferences files from my old version of the game to the new one, but I would love some guidance if anyone knows how to fix this.

@mycophage, I have encountered that, I just kind of mashed on my keyboard until I figured everything out. From what I remember off of the top of my head, z is now the key to refill enchanted weapons, but there were two other keys that were improperly mapped, not that big of a deal after a while of gameplay though.

Thanks, though that's not a very satisfying solution - I've been playing a long time and I like my key mappings.

Besides, the app clearly "thinks" that the keys are mapped differently, because the legend at the bottom of the inventory screen has the standard mappings.

Anyone know where these preferences are stored?

I'll play around with this later today and post if I figure it out.

In my old version of Skyrim, this file was here:

I copied it into this folder:

/Applications/Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim Dawnguard.app/Contents/Resources/drive_c/Program Files/The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim/

replacing a file of the same name.

All the keys work now!

If you get the error message: go to 'settings and then hit the "default" button, that should fix it.

if you're keys are messed up, go to the menu for gameplay, and press the 't' button on the keyboard to reset.

I was ecstatic when I got this working for my macbook pro... @knowsnada can I ask you a favor? can you test these settings for me? seeing as we both share the same specs...

enable GLSL
- right click on skyrim > show package content
- from there, open wineskin
- select advanced
- select tools and under utilities you will find winetrick, select it
- search for GLSL, it should be under settings, tick and select run.

force use xquartz
-follow step 1 to 2 above and select options, it should be the last option.

automatic screen setting (doubt this has anything to do with the game)
- repeat step 1 to 2, select set screen options on the bottom.
-override controls with these setting are changed to automatic from override

huh, could be something else I have done to the wrapper, but only the things I have posted before seems to have a significant effect on the wrapper, mainly GLSL... I'll post what I settings I have changed and update on my skyrim wrapper...

-GLSL enable
-force xquartz
-screen setting override with rootless (windowed)
-graphics setting (in game) set to default (as mentioned by someone before)

oh, and this might be a hindsight but I'm running on 10.6.8 but this should be the problem as I'm running on xquartz rather than X11.

you have to create a plugins.txt to mod the files and enter all the new file names in there.... to mod skyrim you go to skyrim>show in finder>show package contents>resources>transgaming> cdrive>Program fles>the elder scrolls> put your mods in the data folder and make sure you put all new mods into your plugins.txt located in %USERPROFILE%>local settings>application data>Skyrim>plugins.txt in some cases you have to create this plugins.txt file there is a tutorial on youtube on how to do this you just have to pay close attention

Yes, I upgraded to 10.8.2 yesterday and am having the same problem as laukr: When I start the game, the startup screen (dude standing on a mountainside) where you ordinarily choose "PLAY" appears as normal, but there is no cursor.

I have no idea how to start the game without the cursor, so I'm stuck - and really bummed out. If anyone can think of a way to skip the startup screen, or solve the cursor problem, please post here.

REGARDING PROBLEMS WITH THE MOUNTAIN LION (10.8.1+) UPGRADE

Some users have reported a problem with this game following a recent OS X system upgrade. The problem manifested as follows:
- the game starts up normally
- at the startup screen (character standing on a mountainside), no menu appears

Starting with the advice of nullcapitals (thanks!) I appear to have solved the problem for myself. I ended up needing to do a couple more things in order to get the game to work on my system.


Here is what I did (you might want to try steps 6-14 first; I suspect that the option I selected in step 13 might have been the decisive factor).

1) Download Xquartz from http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki/X112.7.2, install, and restart my computer.

2) Download Wine from http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-index.php?page=Downloads , resulting in a file called "Wineskin Winery" appearing in my "Downloads" folder.

3) Launch "Wineskin Winery."

4) In the Wineskin Winery window, click "Update."

5) Close the Winery application.

6) Find the installed version of Skyrim/Dawnguard. For me, this is /Applications/Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim Dawnguard.app

7) Control-click and "Show package contents".

8) Launch "Wineskin"

9) In the Wineskin window, click "Advanced"

10) In the "Wineskin Advanced" window, click "Tools"

11) Under "Wrapper Tools," click "Update wrapper" - this takes a few minutes

12) In the "Wineskin Advanced" window, click "Options"

13) Select "Focus follows mouse (windows may be activated by mouse over instead of clicks")

14) Close Wineskin and launch the game as usual.

This brought the game back for me.

Thanx mycophage that worked for me its running fine now...
except I cannot find the tild key to open the console...
I replaced the custom key map with the one from my original as you explained earlier...
but this key isn't where it was... any ideas?

Thanks for the torrent. Everything works fine, except for some key mappings. My biggest issue is that I cannot find the key to drop items, and so right now I'm carrying a lot of stuff and I can't move.
Does anybody know how to fix this?

@mycophage Can you help me out here? I don't have a previous version, so I can't replace ControlMap_Custom.txt

Found a solution to the key mapping problem I described above. This also applies to the common problem about the keys not doing what they're supposed to do during game play:

1.- Go to /Applications/Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim Dawnguard.app/drive_c/Program Files/The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim/
2.- Look for and trash (back it up first to another folder if you want) the file ControlMap_Custom.txt
3.- When you start Skyrim again, the keyboard mapping will be restored to its defaults, making all the keys work as they're supposed to again.

Awesome torrent, however, i can't see under water, as soon as i get below the surface everything turns dark green/black. Anyone got any solutions to this?

And also, is there any way to upgrade this with the heartfire expansion? :)

If you are searching for console key:

Go to the top bar, showing the time and that things, find a flag, it shows your keyboard configuration. Depending on your keyboard configuration, the ` button dont activate the console, so try to use the USA standard, it should work.

I followed all the steps with the Quartz setup and Wineskin update, as far as I can tell.

When I load up the game I get the starting menu with the hillside image and I can select and navigate the menu no problem.

However when I click 'play' I get an error:

"Failed to initialize renderer.
Unknown error creating the renderer."

Anyone have any ideas?

Just to clarify, I'm running Mountain Lion of an early 2011 Macbook Pro (with Thunderbolt display, not that it matters).

I'll try redoing the whole thing again, see if that works.

When I run the game, it just shows an image of Skyrim about half the size of the screen and it just sits there til I force quit it... why is that?

my screen as soon as i load it the big skyrim logo is there and it just stays there forever it wont go to the next screen where you can load or create games or anything like that it just stays there at one point it stayed on that screen for a few hours i have restarted the laptop multiple times and even refreshed and updated wrappers and fyi i have got about 10 mods on there.

^^ If you're having trouble at startup, see my comment from 2012-10-14 19:19 CET on the previous page. There is a Wine configuration issue that you must fix before you can advance from the startup screen.

Most recent problem (after the most recent Mountain Lion upgrade) is that the game runs fine but crashes every time the character tries to open a book. Since many of the plots require that you read from a book, this is crippling. Has anyone solved this problem?

I got a problem, if someone can help me. Not one I've seen repeated in the comments. My favorites button won't work, no matter what I assign it to. It won't add anything to my favorites, and it won't bring up the favorites menu. Otherwise, following the instructions from mycophage, it works beautifully.
